최초의 위키 사이트를 만든 워드 커닝햄은 이렇게 말한 적이 있다. “인터넷에서 원하는 답을 얻으려면, 질문 말고 틀린 답을 올리면 된다.” 이는 ‘커닝햄의 법칙’으로 불리기도 한다.

이것은 물론 인터넷에 잘못된 정보를 올리라는 뜻이 아니다. 막연하게 묻지 말고 자기가 이해한 만큼 간추려서 공개하라는 뜻이다. 즉, 자기 한계를 드러내야 다른 사람이 틀린 정보를 교정해 주거나 부족한 부분을 채워줄 수 있다.

사람에게 물을 때도 그렇고 AI에게 물을 때도 마찬가지다. “A가 뭐야?”라고 묻기보다 “A는 B와 비슷한 거지?”라고 물으면 더 구체적이며 실용적인 도움을 얻을 수 있다.

The art of asking questions

Ward Cunningham, the creator of the first wiki site, once said “If you want to get the answer you want on the Internet, don’t ask the question, post the wrong answer.” This is often referred to as Cunningham’s Law.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should post false information on the internet. It means that you shouldn’t ask vague questions, but rather be as concise as you understand them. In other words, you should reveal your limitations so that others can correct your misinformation or fill in the gaps.

This is true whether you’re asking a human or an AI. Instead of asking “What is A?”, ask “Is A similar to B?” and you’ll get more specific and practical help.
